Thiruvananthapuram: A 55-year-old KSRTC driver was found hanging near the Kottarakkara KSRTC depot early on Sunday, with police suspecting that financial difficulties and family issues may have driven him to take the extreme step.

Identification and Discovery

The deceased was identified as R Babu, a native of Kuzhiyam in Kundara. His body was found hanging on the upper floor of a shopping complex near the Kottarakkara KSRTC garage. Authorities were alerted to the scene early in the morning.

Police Response and Investigation

After receiving information, Kottarakkara police reached the spot, conducted inquest proceedings, and shifted the body to Parippally Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. A case has been registered under provisions relating to unnatural death, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances.

Financial and Family Struggles

According to relatives and colleagues, Babu had been facing severe financial hardship for several months. He had reportedly gone without a regular salary for a long period, leading to mounting financial pressure on his family. Additionally, his wife’s health issues had further worsened the situation, causing significant emotional distress.

Police sources said the preliminary assessment points to financial and family-related problems as possible reasons behind the suicide. However, the exact circumstances leading to his death will be established only after the investigation is completed.
