KSRTC Driver in Spat With Ex-Mayor Gets Assembly Job

Thiruvananthapuram: Former KSRTC driver L H Yadhu, who lost his job following a public spat with former Thiruvananthapuram mayor Arya Rajendran, has been appointed as a temporary driver at Kerala legislative assembly. The appointment comes after Congress MLA Chandy Oommen reportedly wrote to the speaker, requesting employment for Yadhu.

Background of the Incident

Yadhu’s dismissal from KSRTC followed a complaint filed by Rajendran after a roadside altercation between the two in April 2024. Yadhu had also lodged a complaint against the former mayor over the same incident.

On April 28, 2024, Yadhu was driving a KSRTC superfast bus from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram when an argument broke out between him and the occupants of a car carrying Rajendran, her husband and then MLA Sachin Dev, and their relatives near Saphalyam Complex in Palayam. The dispute reportedly stemmed from an overtaking incident.

Legal Proceedings

Based on Rajendran’s complaint alleging that Yadhu made obscene gestures toward the car, police registered a case against him. Yadhu, however, maintained that his duty was disrupted when the car was allegedly parked obstructing the bus at a traffic signal. He said passengers were inconvenienced as a result of the confrontation.

Although Yadhu had filed a complaint with police, no case was registered at the time. Action was taken only after the incident became a public controversy. However, police subsequently filed a chargesheet in court supporting Rajendran’s complaint.

Future Prospects

Meanwhile, Yadhu remains on the employment exchange rank list prepared for KSRTC driver recruitment. Of the 30 candidates on the list, 15 have been appointed. Yadhu is hopeful of securing a permanent position through the recruitment process in future.
