Kundapur police arrest interstate theft suspect

Mangaluru: Kundapur police have arrested an interstate theft suspect in connection with a house burglary and a motorcycle theft reported in March. The accused, Lalajibhai Budabhai Solanki, 37, a resident of Savarkundla in Gujarat’s Amreli district, was traced to Murudeshwar after an extensive search that initially led police to Gujarat.

Details of the Crimes

Police said a case was registered at Kundapur police station over a house burglary reported between 8.30pm on March 18 and 10am the next day near Sangam Junction in Kundapur taluk. Unidentified thieves broke open the front door lock, entered the house, opened a cupboard, and stole Rs 10,000 in cash. The case was registered under sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305 of the BNS.

On the same night, a motorcycle parked near Vinay Hospital in Kasaba village was stolen between 7.45pm and 8.15am the next day. The complainant found the vehicle missing on returning to the parking area the next morning. The motorcycle, valued at Rs 20,000, was reported stolen, and a case was registered.

Investigation and Arrest

During the investigation, under the supervision of DSP HD Kulkarni and on the directions of Kundapur police inspector Jayaram D Gowda, a team led by PSI Nanjanayak N (law & order) and PSI Pushpa (investigation) tracked the accused. The team initially travelled to Savarkundla in Gujarat based on his address and later traced him to Murudeshwar in Uttara Kannada district, where he was detained Saturday.

Police said the accused confessed to both the burglary and the motorcycle theft during interrogation. The stolen motorcycle was recovered from his possession.
