Daily Wage Labourer Killed in Erode as Old Water Tank Collapses During Demolition
A tragic incident in Erode district has claimed the life of a young daily wage labourer. On Saturday, a 27-year-old man was killed instantly when a portion of an old concrete water tank collapsed on him while he was engaged in demolition work near Bhavanisagar.
Victim Identified as Chinnaraj from Vellalapalayam
The Bhavanisagar police have identified the deceased as Chinnaraj, a resident of Vellalapalayam near Thoppampalayam within their jurisdiction. According to police officials, the fatal accident occurred at the Puliyampatty main water supply station.
Chinnaraj was working alongside four other labourers to demolish the aging concrete water tank when the structure suddenly gave way. A large portion of the tank collapsed directly onto him, trapping him beneath heavy debris.

Upon receiving the alert about the accident, local police authorities swiftly responded. The victim's body was transported to a government hospital for a mandatory postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police Investigation Underway
The Bhavanisagar police have registered a formal case regarding this unfortunate incident. An active investigation is currently ongoing to examine the circumstances that led to the structural failure and to determine if any safety protocols were violated during the demolition work.
This tragic event highlights the dangerous conditions often faced by daily wage labourers in construction and demolition sectors, particularly when working with aging infrastructure without adequate safety measures in place.
