Lamborghini Drifting Controversy in Bengaluru Takes New Turn
The high-profile Lamborghini "drifting" incident near Anil Kumble Circle in Bengaluru has escalated into a legal and media spectacle, with Ricky Rai, son of former underworld figure Muthappa Rai, vehemently denying any wrongdoing. Appearing before the Cubbon Park traffic police on Monday evening after securing anticipatory bail, Rai recorded his statement, insisting he was not driving the luxury car during the alleged early Saturday morning stunt on MG Road.
Counsel's Defense: A Case of Misinterpretation and Brake Failure
Ricky Rai's legal representative, G Narayanswamy, addressed the media, framing the event as a "misinterpretation as a drifting stunt." He clarified that Rai's driver was operating the vehicle at the time, with Rai merely present as a passenger. Narayanswamy elaborated that the incident occurred between 2 am and 3 am, when traffic was minimal, and the car had been taken from a service center.
Key Argument: The counsel attributed the skid to brake application on a recently repaired road surface allegedly contaminated with mud. "The driver managed to control the vehicle skillfully and continued driving. His expertise should be commended," Narayanswamy stated, challenging the police's characterization of the event.
Allegations of Unfair Targeting and Legal Discrepancies
Narayanswamy further argued that Ricky Rai is being singled out unfairly. He pointed out that in comparable instances of drifting or wheeling, authorities typically issue spot fines and release vehicles promptly. "Why was a formal FIR registered here? This situation, at most, warrants a Rs 1,000 penalty," he contended. Notably, Rai, who had returned from Russia just a day prior to the incident, underwent nearly three hours of police questioning, adding to the scrutiny.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
In response, Bengaluru traffic police have released before-and-after visuals of the Lamborghini on social media platforms, with Ricky Rai's face obscured to maintain privacy. A senior police officer confirmed that the driver has admitted to being behind the wheel during the occurrence. The investigation remains active, with authorities examining all aspects of the case to determine the precise sequence of events and any potential violations of traffic regulations.
This development highlights the intersection of celebrity status, legal procedures, and public safety concerns in urban India. As the probe continues, it underscores the importance of adhering to traffic laws, regardless of one's background or vehicle type.
