In a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves through Chandigarh, a close associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was shot dead late on Monday night. The victim, Inderpreet Singh, widely known as Parry, was ambushed and killed in his SUV in the upscale Sector 26 area, marking the city's first major gangland shooting in over three years.
A Deadly Chase and Execution-Style Killing
According to senior police officials, the 35-year-old Parry was being followed by another vehicle before he was gunned down near the Timber Market. The assailants fired multiple rounds into his car, with initial forensic counts suggesting between eight to nine bullet wounds, though the final number could be higher. Police rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The incident occurred less than 3 kilometers from the site where Goldy Brar's cousin, Gurlal Brar, was killed in October 2020.
Inspector General of Police, Pushpendra Kumar, stated that the modus operandi strongly points towards an inter-gang rivalry. "The victim's car was being followed, and it could be a gang war," Kumar told reporters. Investigators are currently scouring CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace the movements of the attackers and the route taken by Parry before the attack.
Facebook Post Claims Revenge for Dubai Murder
Shortly after the killing, a chilling claim of responsibility appeared on Facebook under the handle 'Hari Boxer Aarzoo Bishnoi'. The post explicitly stated the murder was an act of vengeance for the killing of Lawrence Bishnoi's close associate, Jora Sidhu alias Sippa, who was murdered in Dubai last month.
The post read: "A new war began today. Inderpreet Parry was murdered in Sector 26, Chandigarh. We take responsibility for this... Parry used to collect money from all the clubs by making calls to a traitor from our group, Goldy or Rohit. That's why we killed him. They started it." It ended with a dire warning to anyone assisting the rival faction, threatening action regardless of their location.
A senior police officer confirmed to Times of India that they are aware of the social media post. "Yes, it looks like the handiwork of the Lawrence gang. We are tracking the social media handle," the officer said.
From College Politics to a Life of Crime
The bond between Parry and Lawrence Bishnoi was forged decades ago during their student days at Chandigarh's DAV College in Sector 10. Both were active in student politics with the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), with Parry serving as the "all colleges chairman." This partnership later evolved into a criminal alliance, leading to multiple joint arrests and incarcerations.
Parry had amassed a lengthy criminal record over the years:
- He was arrested two years ago for murder and was out on bail while the trial was ongoing.
- His name features in a 14-year-old case from 2011, where he and Lawrence Bishnoi, along with others, were accused of armed assault in Sector 40.
- In March 2022, UT Police arrested him from his Sector 33 residence, seizing a pistol and ammunition. His interrogation led to the recovery of more sophisticated weapons, including a Glock pistol and a US-made rifle.
- He was previously arrested in 2017 with notorious gangster Bharat Bhushan (Bhola Shooter).
- Punjab Police arrested him again in 2023 from Himachal Pradesh for his alleged role in the murder of a Dera Sacha Sauda follower.
Tragically, Parry had gotten married just a fortnight before his violent end. The police investigation is now focused on identifying the shooters, who are believed to have been acquainted with the victim, and unraveling the full extent of the gang war that has now spilled onto the streets of 'The City Beautiful'.
