A Panchkula court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife over their inability to have children. Additional sessions judge Bikramjit Arora also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
Case Details
The case dates back to January 13, 2023, when information was received about the suspicious death of a woman in the Abhaypur area. A police team reached the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, for postmortem.
The accused, Manoj Kumar, a native of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was arrested following a complaint filed by the victim's brother, Chandan Kumar. The complainant told police that his sister, Ruby Kumari, had married Manoj four years ago and had been living in Panchkula for the past two years. He alleged that the accused used to assault her frequently after consuming alcohol and harassed her over not having children.
He further alleged that the accused threatened to abandon her and remarry, subjecting her to sustained mental and physical abuse. Based on the complaint, a murder case was registered at Sector-20 police station.

Relying on evidence and witness testimonies, the court found Manoj guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000.
