The principal district and sessions court in Koppal has delivered a stern verdict, sentencing a man to life imprisonment and imposing a substantial fine of Rs 70,000 for the murder of a boy from Talakal village in Kukanur taluk. The court found the accused, Annappa Hemanna Naduvalamani, guilty of all charges after a thorough trial.
Background of the Tragic Incident
The case revolves around the murder of Manjunath, a resident of Talakal village, who was allegedly killed by Annappa, also from the same village. According to prosecution details, Annappa was involved in a romantic relationship with a girl from the village. When the girl's younger brother, Manjunath, informed his family about this relationship, the girl's relatives intervened, warning Annappa to stay away from her.
Enraged by this warning and fearing that Manjunath would continue to create obstacles in his relationship, Annappa devised a sinister plan. On July 19, 2020, he lured the boy under the pretext of showing him a deer. He then took him to a public pond located in the Halageri limits of Koppal taluk, where he committed the murder and subsequently buried the body in a pit to conceal the crime.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Following the incident, the Kukanur police promptly registered a case under Sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 302 (murder), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation was led by then Yelburga CPI Nagareddy, who meticulously gathered evidence and filed a chargesheet against the accused.
