Life term for man who shot mother dead in Hisar

A court in Hisar has delivered a life imprisonment sentence to a man convicted of shooting his own mother dead, driven by deep-seated suspicions regarding her character. The verdict, pronounced nearly 18 months after the gruesome incident, brings a legal conclusion to a tragic family dispute.

The Court's Verdict and Punishment

Additional Sessions Judge Nishant Sharma found Kamal, a resident of Jawahar Nagar in Adampur, guilty of murder. The court not only handed down a life sentence but also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 on the convict. The case dates back to June 2024, highlighting the duration of the judicial process that led to this final outcome.

Chilling Details of the Crime

The murder came to light when Kamal's wife, Santosh Devi, filed a complaint at the Adampur police station on June 5, 2024. In her statement to the police, she revealed that she had been married to Kamal for only about four months at the time of the incident. The family structure included the victim, Roshani Devi, who had two sons, two daughters, and an adopted son named Rupesh.

Santosh Devi recounted the horrifying moment when her husband confessed to the crime. Kamal approached her and admitted that he had shot his mother, leaving her body on the street. Upon rushing to the spot, Santosh discovered her mother-in-law lying face down with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. She promptly informed Rupesh, the adopted brother-in-law, who then alerted the police, setting the investigation in motion.

Motive and Investigation Findings

During the thorough investigation and subsequent trial, the prosecution established the motive behind the brutal act. It emerged that Kamal was harbouring a strong suspicion about his mother's conduct. This lingering doubt and grudge against his mother ultimately drove him to commit the murder. The court examined all evidence before concluding that the act was premeditated and born out of this personal vendetta.

The sentencing underscores the judiciary's firm stance on severe crimes like matricide. The life term serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences of taking the law into one's own hands based on personal suspicions. The case has left the local community in Adampur and Hisar in shock, reflecting on the tragic outcomes of unresolved familial conflicts.
