A 21-year-old man was fatally attacked by a lion in Gujarat's Amreli district on Wednesday evening, according to forest officials. The incident occurred in the Antaliya revenue area near the Luvariya Reserve Forest.
Victim and Circumstances
The victim, identified as Sohail Munjawar, a resident of Amreli, was killed by the wild animal. Deputy Conservator of Forests Chirag Amin stated that a preliminary investigation suggests the lion attacked Munjawar after he and his friend disturbed the big cat while it was mating with a lioness. A detailed investigation is underway.
Lion Captured and Body Recovered
The male lion, estimated to be between 9 and 12 years old, was later captured by the forest department during a rescue operation. The victim's body was taken to a hospital for a post-mortem examination, Amin added.
Wildlife Officials Respond
Forest officials are continuing their probe into the incident. The rescue operation aimed to secure the lion and prevent further attacks. Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious in areas near the reserve forest.
