Lucknow Police Take Action Against 5 Officials Over New Year Traffic Chaos
Lucknow cops face action for New Year traffic mess

In a decisive move, the Lucknow Police have launched disciplinary proceedings against several of its officials following severe traffic gridlock during the New Year celebrations. The action comes after alleged negligence in controlling illegal encroachments led to massive snarls across key areas of the historic city.

Officials Face Immediate Consequences

Taking stern note of the failure, DCP (West Zone) Vishwajeet Srivastava ordered the immediate line attachment of the in-charges of three crucial police outposts. The officials from Satkhanda, Rumi Gate, and Hussainabad outposts were held accountable. Similar action was directed against the outpost in-charge responsible for the River Bank Colony and Old High Court area.

Furthermore, comprehensive departmental proceedings have been initiated against both officers, who hold the rank of sub-inspector. This signifies a formal inquiry into their conduct and potential dereliction of duty.

Encroachments Blamed for Prolonged Snarls

According to the police administration, the core of the problem was the failure to clear illegal roadside encroachments. This lapse allegedly resulted in prolonged and intense traffic congestion, particularly affecting the narrow lanes and bustling markets of Old Lucknow.

The DCP (West) stated that the situation caused major inconvenience to thousands of commuters and tourists who were out celebrating the New Year. The festive rush, combined with blocked roads, brought several areas to a standstill.

Broader Scrutiny Within Traffic Police

The crackdown has extended beyond the local police outposts. In a related development, a detailed report recommending action against the Chowk traffic inspector has been sent to the Lucknow Traffic Police headquarters. This indicates that the review of responsibilities encompasses specialized traffic management personnel as well.

This series of actions underscores the police department's intent to enforce accountability and improve civic management during peak hours and public festivals. It sends a clear message to field officials about the importance of proactive measures to ensure smooth public movement.
