Lucknow Police Apprehends Driver Accused of Major Theft from Employer's Residence
In a significant breakthrough, the Lucknow Police on Monday successfully arrested a driver accused of stealing a substantial sum of Rs 10 lakh in cash along with valuable jewellery from his employer's house. The incident occurred during the night of February 24-25 in the upscale Sushant Golf City area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property
The accused, identified as Rajendra Sharma, aged 44, was apprehended from the Jawaharnagar locality in Gajraula, Amroha district. According to police reports, Sharma was residing in a rented accommodation where he had concealed the stolen property. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vasanath Rallapalli confirmed that based on a complaint filed by the employer, an FIR was registered, leading to Sharma's arrest on March 2.
During intensive interrogation, Sharma allegedly confessed to committing the theft out of sheer greed. He disclosed that he had hidden the stolen items, including the cash and a large quantity of gold and silver jewellery, in a black backpack at his rented house. Acting swiftly on this information, the police conducted a raid and successfully recovered the entire stolen property, ensuring no loss to the victim.
Background of the Case
The case unfolded when Nilesh Singh, a resident of Sarsanwa under the Sushant Golf City police jurisdiction, lodged a formal complaint on February 27. Singh accused his driver of breaking into his locker and almirah at his residence and fleeing with cash and jewellery while the family was away. This prompted a thorough investigation by the authorities, culminating in the arrest and recovery.
Following the arrest, Rajendra Sharma was produced before a local court, where he was remanded to judicial custody. In recognition of the diligent efforts, DCP Agarwal announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the police team involved in the case, praising their workout and successful recovery of all valuables.
This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and trust in domestic help, as well as the effectiveness of prompt police action in resolving such crimes. The Lucknow Police's swift response has been commended, serving as a deterrent to similar offenses in the region.
