Lucknow Police Cracks Down on Gang Targeting Vulnerable Job Seekers
In a significant breakthrough, the Lucknow Police on Sunday dismantled a criminal gang that was systematically robbing job seekers at gunpoint after enticing them with fraudulent employment offers. The operation led to the arrest of five accused individuals and the recovery of looted belongings from the victims.
Complaint Unveils Elaborate Scam
The case came to light when Rohit Bansal, an event management worker and resident of Nishatganj, filed a formal complaint with the Hazratganj police station. Bansal alleged that on February 26, he was contacted under the pretense of a job opportunity. Upon arriving at the specified location, he was blindfolded by the perpetrators and taken to a secluded area.
There, the assailants assaulted him, coerced him into transferring money online, and stole his wallet, watch, and gold chain. This incident prompted immediate police action to prevent further victimization.
Swift Police Response and Arrests
Acting promptly, the Lucknow Police formed three specialized teams under the direct supervision of senior officers. Leveraging advanced cyber surveillance techniques and technical intelligence, authorities successfully tracked down the gang members.
On February 28, the police arrested the five accused: Nuruddin alias Sameer, Ravi Rajput, Ayush Yadav, Ayush Balmiki, and Gopal Soni, all residents of Lucknow. During the operation, law enforcement recovered a gold chain, a wallet, Rs 14,400 in cash, an ATM card, and four mobile phones that were used in the commission of the crimes.
Modus Operandi Revealed
During interrogation, the accused disclosed their method of operation. They would actively search for individuals seeking employment opportunities online, build trust by offering seemingly legitimate job prospects, and then lure them to isolated locations.
Once there, they would rob the victims at gunpoint. Hazratganj Station House Officer Vikram Singh stated that this gang specifically preyed on the vulnerability of job seekers, exploiting their desperation for employment to carry out these heinous acts.
Broader Implications and Police Warning
This case highlights the growing trend of cyber-enabled crimes targeting unsuspecting citizens. The Lucknow Police have issued a public advisory urging job seekers to exercise extreme caution when responding to online job offers, especially those that seem too good to be true.
Authorities recommend verifying the legitimacy of employers through official channels and avoiding sharing personal or financial information with unknown parties. The successful bust demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating traditional policing with modern cyber tools to combat such sophisticated criminal networks.
