Lucknow Police Intensifies Crackdown on Reckless Biking After Teen's Fatal Stunt

In the wake of a tragic incident where a Class XII student lost his life while attempting a high-speed motorcycle stunt near Janeshwar Mishra Park, the Lucknow Police has significantly ramped up its enforcement efforts against reckless biking in the Gomti Nagar Extension area. Authorities are now issuing a stern appeal to parents, urging them to refrain from purchasing powerful sports bikes for minors who lack the maturity to handle such vehicles safely.

Gomti Nagar Extension: A Hotspot for Dangerous Stunts

Police officials have identified the Gomti Nagar Extension locality as a particular concern due to its wide roads and relatively low traffic during late evening hours. This environment has increasingly transformed the area into a hotspot for young enthusiasts performing perilous stunts and recording videos for social media platforms. According to Gomti Nagar Extension inspector Sudhir Awasthi, the police have been actively working to curb this dangerous trend over the past two years.

"In many instances, we find teenagers riding heavy and high-powered sports motorcycles. Parents must understand that such bikes are not meant for minors. Buying expensive sports bikes for children who are not mature enough to handle them can put their lives in danger," Awasthi emphasized, highlighting the critical role of parental responsibility in preventing such accidents.

Enforcement Data Reveals Persistent Issues

Official police records provide a stark picture of the ongoing challenges. Data shows that 21 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered, and more than 300 vehicles were seized in the locality for offences including stunting, rash driving, and overspeeding. The crackdown has continued with vigor into recent years.

In 2025 alone, enforcement drives resulted in the seizure of 281 vehicles. During that same year, 16 FIRs were lodged, and nearly 150 riders caught performing stunts were formally warned and counselled by police teams. The momentum has carried into 2026, with the first three months already seeing five FIRs registered, 45 vehicles seized, and approximately 100 riders counselled for overspeeding or attempting stunts on public roads.

Strategic Police Operations and Enhanced Surveillance

To combat this issue, police teams conduct regular checking drives on the stretch, with a particular focus on weekends and late evenings when groups of bikers tend to gather. "Our teams often carry out surprise checks. Sometimes police personnel also monitor the stretch in civvies to identify riders performing stunts. Once such activity is noticed, nearby patrol units immediately move in and take action," Inspector Awasthi explained, detailing the tactical approaches employed.

In response to the recent fatal accident, surveillance has been further intensified. A mobile patrol vehicle is now deployed permanently near the accident-prone stretch to maintain a close watch on bikers' activities and proactively prevent stunt riding. Officials have affirmed that strict action will continue against all violators, stressing that reckless stunts and overspeeding not only constitute serious traffic violations but also pose an imminent threat to the safety of the riders themselves and other commuters on the road.

The Lucknow Police's reinforced campaign underscores a broader commitment to road safety and the prevention of needless tragedies caused by irresponsible biking behavior among youth.
