Lucknow Sextortion Gang: Seven Additional Victims Come Forward as Police Uncover Pan-India Racket
In a significant development following the bust of a pan-India sextortion gang, at least seven more individuals stepped forward on Tuesday to lodge formal complaints with the Lucknow police. This alarming surge in victim reports has starkly exposed the extensive reach and sophisticated operations of the criminal network, which specifically targeted men through a popular gay dating application.
Modus Operandi: Luring, Filming, and Blackmailing Victims
According to detailed police statements, the gang employed a calculated and predatory strategy. Members would initially initiate contact with potential victims via the dating app, arranging to meet at private locations. Once the victim arrived, other gang members would forcibly enter the premises, secretly record compromising videos, and then use these recordings to blackmail the individuals. The extortion demands were executed through digital payments, with victims coerced into transferring money via QR codes under threat of public exposure.
Police Action and Arrests
The case first came to light on March 15 when a complainant reported that several men had barged into his room, threatened him, recorded videos, and forced him to make an online payment. Following this complaint, a joint investigative team comprising the North Zone SWAT unit, the surveillance unit, and the Aliganj police swiftly moved into action. On Monday, this coordinated effort led to the arrest of four adult members of the gang and the detention of a 17-year-old minor, who is alleged to have played a pivotal role in luring victims.
The arrested accused have been identified as Khalid Ahmad (23), Devkaran Singh (23), Akash Pandey (21), and Subhash Rawat, also known as Golu (22). However, police officials confirmed that two alleged masterminds behind the operation remain at large and are currently evading capture.
Interrogation Reveals Widespread Criminal Network
During intensive interrogations, the suspects disclosed a well-planned and organized modus operandi. One member would exclusively handle initiating contact and setting up meetings through the app, while other accomplices would carry out the actual confrontations, video recordings, and monetary threats. This division of labor allowed the gang to operate efficiently and avoid detection for an extended period.
Furthermore, police investigations have uncovered that the gang was not confined to Lucknow but had executed similar sextortion crimes across multiple Indian states. Their criminal activities have been traced to Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra, indicating a truly pan-India reach that has victimized numerous individuals.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Rishabh Runwal emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that the initial complaint on March 15 triggered a comprehensive probe that ultimately led to the gang's disruption. The police are now intensifying their efforts to apprehend the two fugitive masterminds and are urging any other potential victims to come forward to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
