Police in Ludhiana have initiated a major investigation after a shocking incident of assault and an attempted kidnapping in the city's Jamalpur area. A case has been registered against eight individuals, including three identified local men, for allegedly attacking a woman and trying to abduct her young daughter.
Details of the Jamalpur Assault Incident
According to the official complaint, the terrifying episode unfolded on March 31. The victim reported that three known accused, along with several unidentified accomplices, forcibly entered her residence. The situation quickly turned violent when the woman resisted their advances.
The assailants began beating her and, in a brutal act, tore her clothes. Fearing for her life, the woman managed to lock herself inside a room on the first floor of her house to escape the assault.
Attempted Kidnapping of the Daughter
While the mother was trapped upstairs, the accused allegedly turned their attention to her daughter, who was playing in the courtyard. In a brazen move, they tried to pick up the child and place her on a scooter, presumably to take her away.
Their plan was thwarted when the mother, hearing the commotion, raised a loud alarm. The noise alerted neighbors and prompted the accused to flee the scene initially. However, in a chilling follow-up, they returned later the same day and threatened to kill the woman for reporting the matter.
Police Action and Legal Framework
The traumatized complainant subsequently approached the Moti Nagar police station and filed a formal complaint. Taking swift action, the police registered a case under multiple stringent sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges invoked include:
- Section 74: Assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
- Section 78: Stalking.
- Section 351(3): Criminal intimidation.
- Section 190: Unlawful assembly.
Investigation Officer Vijay Kumar confirmed that raids are currently being conducted across the area to locate and arrest all the accused. While three belong to the same locality as the complainant, five others remain unidentified.
Local sources indicate that the two parties were once on cordial terms, but recent differences had developed between them. The police have assured the public that all efforts are underway to trace everyone involved and that strict legal action will be taken.
