Ludhiana couple held for murder, dismembering friend

In a gruesome crime that has sent shockwaves through Ludhiana, a couple has been arrested for the brutal murder and dismemberment of their friend. The incident, which unfolded in the Haibowal area, came to light after police discovered the victim's body parts stuffed inside a plastic drum.

A Grisly Discovery in Haibowal

The Ludhiana Police made the horrifying discovery on Tuesday, acting on a tip-off about a foul smell emanating from a vacant plot in Haibowal's K Block. Upon investigation, they found a blue plastic drum containing human remains. The victim was later identified as Happy, a 26-year-old resident of Salem Tabri. The police swiftly launched an investigation, which led them to the prime suspects.

The arrested individuals have been named as Kulwinder Singh, alias Kanta, and his wife Ramanpreet Kaur, both residents of Haibowal. According to police officials, the murder was the result of a violent altercation that took place on the night of March 23. The fight reportedly erupted among the trio after they consumed drugs together.

Drug-Fuelled Altercation Leads to Brutal Killing

Investigations reveal a chilling sequence of events. Happy, the victim, was a friend of the accused couple and a frequent visitor to their home. On the fateful night, all three were under the influence of narcotics. An argument broke out, which quickly escalated into a physical fight.

"During the fight, Kulwinder Singh hit Happy on the head with a blunt object, which proved fatal," stated a senior police officer involved in the case. Panicked by their actions, the couple did not inform the authorities. Instead, they devised a macabre plan to conceal the crime.

They dismembered Happy's body using a cutting tool and packed the parts into a large plastic drum. Under the cover of darkness, they transported the drum to a deserted plot near their residence and abandoned it there, hoping the evidence would never be found.

Police Crack the Case and Make Arrests

The breakthrough came when locals complained about a persistent stench in the area. Police Commissioner Nimisha Saxena confirmed that a special investigation team was formed, which worked on technical surveillance and human intelligence. The couple's suspicious behavior and movements were tracked, leading to their arrest.

During interrogation, Kulwinder Singh and Ramanpreet Kaur confessed to the crime. The police have recovered the weapon used in the murder and the tool allegedly used for dismemberment. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder and destruction of evidence, has been registered at the Division Number 5 police station.

The police are also investigating the drug angle of the case to identify the suppliers. This horrifying incident has highlighted the devastating consequences of drug abuse and violent behavior, leaving the local community in a state of fear and disbelief.
