The Ludhiana police have arrested an accomplice of a Municipal Corporation (MC) sanitation worker for his alleged involvement in a series of vehicle thefts and snatchings in the city. The accused was apprehended by a police team during a special drive aimed at curbing street crime.
Details of the Arrest
According to the police, the suspect was caught with stolen items, including mobile phones and two-wheelers. Preliminary investigations reveal that he worked in tandem with the MC employee to target unsuspecting victims. The duo would allegedly steal vehicles and snatch valuables from pedestrians, especially in crowded areas.
Modus Operandi
The accused, identified as a resident of a local slum, would scout for potential targets while his accomplice, the sanitation worker, provided cover and assisted in the thefts. They primarily targeted parked two-wheelers and women walking alone. Stolen goods were then sold to local fences.
Police Action
A senior police official stated that the arrest came after a tip-off and surveillance. The police have recovered several stolen items and are interrogating the accused to identify other members of the gang. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
Impact on Public Safety
Residents of Ludhiana have expressed relief at the arrest, as vehicle thefts and snatchings had been on the rise. The MC has also initiated an internal inquiry into the involvement of its employee. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
