Ludhiana Police Make Another Arrest in Daylight Village Shooting Case
Rural police in Ludhiana have apprehended another suspect in connection with the brazen daylight shooting of a Manuke village resident, though the alleged mastermind behind the killing continues to evade capture two months after the violent incident occurred.
Suspect Apprehended with Evidence
Chatar Singh, a resident of Badhni Kalan in Moga district, was arrested by Hathur police in relation to the murder of Gagandeep Singh. During the arrest operation, officers successfully recovered a Hyundai Verna vehicle and a baseball bat, both of which are believed to have been used during the January 5 attack that claimed the victim's life.
Sub-inspector Kuldip Kumar, the Station House Officer of Hathur Police Station, has officially confirmed that Chatar Singh was an active participant in the armed group that traveled specifically from Moga to carry out the execution-style crime.
Expanding Investigation and Legal Proceedings
This latest arrest brings the total number of individuals now in police custody to twelve. Among those detained are several suspects accused of providing shelter and assistance to the primary perpetrators involved in the violent incident.
The suspected ringleader, identified as Gursewak Singh Mota, remains at large despite intensive police efforts. Law enforcement authorities have conducted multiple raids on his known hideouts and have now initiated formal legal proceedings to have him officially declared a proclaimed offender.
Details of the Fatal Incident
Investigators have revealed that both Mota and a co-accused named Gurdeep Singh, who was arrested on the same day as the murder, allegedly opened fire on the victim using illegal firearms near the village grain market. The shooting appears to represent the violent culmination of a dispute that local community leaders had previously attempted to resolve through traditional mediation methods.
Peace Negotiations That Turned Deadly
According to testimony from the victim's mother, Gurmeet Kaur, the conflict originated on New Year's Eve when Gursewak Mota allegedly attacked Gagandeep Singh's friend, Ekam Singh, with a sharp-edged weapon. Following this initial violence, a village panchayat meeting was convened with the intention of reaching a peaceful compromise between the conflicting parties.
During this mediation session, Gagandeep Singh reportedly confronted Mota directly, questioning why he continued to harass Ekam Singh's family members. The victim's mother alleges that this public confrontation sparked a deep-seated grudge in Mota, who then orchestrated the fatal shooting just five days later in what appears to have been a retaliatory act of violence.
The investigation continues as police work to apprehend the remaining suspects and build a comprehensive case around the circumstances that led to this tragic village dispute turning deadly.
