Ludhiana: Police have exposed an organized extortion, drug, and weapons syndicate operated by a fugitive local criminal hiding in Europe. The gang, directed overseas by Namit Sharma, targeted prominent businessmen across Punjab. Local operatives utilized armed intimidation, including targeted gunfire, to extort massive payouts.
Cross-Border Smuggling Operations
Authorities revealed the network was also heavily involved in cross-border smuggling operations involving illicit drugs and firearms. A case has been registered against Sharma and five identified local associates under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s stringent organized crime and extortion provisions, alongside the Arms Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Manhunt Underway
A multi-agency manhunt is on to apprehend the suspects. The police are coordinating with international agencies to track down Sharma, who is believed to be directing operations from Europe. The arrested local associates are being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the network.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities and assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in such criminal enterprises.
