Massive Drug Incineration in Ludhiana

The Ludhiana Police Commissionerate on Thursday incinerated a significant quantity of narcotics as part of the state government's Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign. Officials confirmed that the destroyed contraband included over 2 lakh pills and 318 kg of various drugs, all linked to 50 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The disposal operation was supervised by a high-level drug disposal committee comprising Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP investigation) Harpal Singh, Additional DCP (investigation) Amandeep Singh Brar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP investigation-1) Harshpreet Singh.

Legal Compliance and Transparency

According to police officials, the disposal drive was carried out in strict adherence to the statutory mandates of the NDPS Act. The process ensured transparency and accountability in handling seized narcotics. Commissioner of Police Swapan stated that Thursday's operation was only a fraction of the broader crackdown.

“This incineration is just the tip of the iceberg. Since January 1, 2026, we have been on a relentless, round-the-clock offensive,” Swapan said.

Year-Long Offensive Against Drug Networks

From January 1, 2026, to July 9, 2026, the Ludhiana police have processed and disposed of case properties linked to 532 NDPS cases. This aggressive action aims to cripple the financial backbone of local drug networks. Swapan emphasized that the war on drugs is being fought on two fronts: ruthless enforcement on the streets to arrest peddlers and lightning-fast legal disposal of seized property to ensure transparency.

The incineration event underscores the Punjab Police's commitment to eradicating drug abuse and dismantling trafficking networks under the Yudh Nashian Virudh initiative.
