Gaya: Magadh range Inspector General Vikas Vaibhav has reviewed 188 serious criminal cases across five districts during his first month in office, with a focus on crimes against women and children as well as instances of police negligence.
Review and Actions Taken
Vaibhav stated that he personally inspected the Gaya district police control room and traffic check posts, and formed quick response teams to strengthen policing. To improve accountability, disciplinary action was initiated against nearly half a dozen officers, including investigating officers, a police inspector at the cyber police station in Jehanabad, and the SHO of Bankebazar police station in Gaya district.
Field-Level Policing Improvements
As part of efforts to enhance field-level policing, Vaibhav adopted Muffassil police station in Gaya district on a pilot basis to study operational challenges. He conducted spot visits to Nadriganj in Nawada and Gurua in Gaya following attacks on police personnel and a gold loot case. Both cases were solved quickly.
A special investigation team was formed after the kidnapping of a child from the Obra police station area. The child was later rescued from Gaya town.
Public Interaction and Petitions
Vaibhav said public interaction programmes are being organised at police stations to strengthen police-public cooperation. Officers have been asked to deal sensitively with issues involving elderly citizens, NRIs, tourists, and weaker sections.
The IG office has received 1,196 petitions, which are being disposed of in a time-bound manner. “Our office is committed to the creation of fearlessness and effective policing in an unbiased manner. Once public confidence is built up, investors and entrepreneurs will be encouraged to establish business and manufacturing units in the interest of the state’s prosperity,” Vaibhav said.
