Maharashtra DGP Sadanand Date Visits Gadchiroli to Review Anti-Maoist Strategy

In a significant move shortly after assuming charge, Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Sadanand Date embarked on his maiden visit to the Maoist-affected Gadchiroli district on Saturday. The visit aimed to review policing patterns and crime rates in the region, which has seen a notable decline in Maoist influence in recent times.

Reviewing Security and Sharing Meals with Forces

With the deadline of March 31 approaching and approximately nine Maoist cadres still on record, DGP Date made a strategic stop at Maharashtra's last police post located at Binagunda on the Chhattisgarh border. During his visit, he shared a meal with security forces, underscoring his commitment to their welfare and morale. Arriving in Nagpur on Friday, Date's itinerary included dining with troops at the remote Binagunda post, highlighting his hands-on approach amid the final push against Maoist remnants.

Binagunda: A Key Location in Anti-Maoist Operations

Binagunda holds historical significance as it was once part of the core areas of the erstwhile Maoist headquarters of Abujmarh before being freed from the influence of the Reds. The post, which has been newly reopened, serves as a crucial launch pad for final actions aimed at eliminating the remaining Maoist elements. This strategic positioning underscores the ongoing efforts to secure the region and prevent any resurgence of Maoist activities.

Vision for Gadchiroli: Shifting Towards Community-Oriented Policing

In his address during the visit, DGP Date outlined a clear and forward-thinking vision for Gadchiroli. He emphasized the need to shift towards people-friendly and community-oriented approaches in policing. This strategy aims to build trust and cooperation between law enforcement and local communities, fostering a safer environment and addressing the root causes of crime and insurgency.

The visit not only reinforced the state's commitment to eradicating Maoist influence but also signaled a new era of policing focused on engagement and collaboration in Gadchiroli.
