Maharashtra Duo Nabbed for Beachside Bag Snatching
Calangute police have successfully arrested two men from Maharashtra in connection with a significant theft that occurred at the popular Baga Beach. The incident took place on November 4 between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM, when an unattended backpack containing valuable items was stolen from the beach area.
The Victim and Stolen Items
Madhavi Namjibhai Patel, a 37-year-old resident of Gandhinagar, Gujarat, immediately reported the theft to Calangute police station. According to her complaint, the stolen backpack contained multiple high-value items including:
- Three mobile phones
- An identity card
- A wallet containing Rs 5,000 cash
- Personal clothing items
- A rental bike key
The total estimated value of the stolen property reached Rs 1.85 lakh, making this a substantial theft case that demanded immediate police attention.
Police Investigation Breakthrough
During their investigation, Calangute police officers made a crucial breakthrough when they managed to trace one of the stolen mobile phones. The electronic trail led them directly to Sangli district in Maharashtra, approximately 500 kilometers from the crime scene.
The investigation identified the suspects as Kishor Kore (27) and Parshram Bansode (25), both natives of Miraj in Sangli district. Police discovered that both men were in possession of the stolen mobile phones from the Baga Beach incident.
Both accused were brought to the Calangute police station on Sunday for detailed interrogation and further investigation into the theft case. The successful tracking operation demonstrates the effectiveness of modern investigative techniques in solving beach crimes.
Tourist Security Concerns Addressed
This incident highlights the ongoing concerns about tourist safety at popular Goan beaches, particularly during evening hours. Baga Beach, being one of North Goa's most visited destinations, attracts thousands of tourists daily, making it potentially vulnerable to such criminal activities.
Local authorities have increased vigilance along coastal areas following this incident. Police officials have advised tourists to remain cautious with their belongings, especially during crowded evening hours when visibility decreases and distraction levels increase.
The arrest of the two Maharashtra natives serves as a warning to potential criminals while reassuring tourists about the effectiveness of Goa's police force in protecting visitor safety and property.
