The main accused in the brutal murder of a Class 11 student was killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad late on Tuesday night. The accused, identified as Pankaj, was wanted in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Shivam, who was stabbed to death on Monday near his school in the Loni area.
Details of the Encounter
According to police officials, a team from the Loni police station was conducting a search operation when they intercepted the accused near the Hindon Canal. The accused allegedly opened fire on the police, prompting a retaliatory action. In the exchange of fire, Pankaj sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from the spot. The encounter took place around 11:30 PM, and the area was cordoned off for investigation.
Background of the Case
Shivam, a student of Class 11, was attacked on Monday evening while returning home from school. He was stabbed multiple times by a group of assailants. The motive behind the murder is believed to be a previous altercation between the victim and the accused. Shivam succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
The murder had sparked outrage among local residents and students, who staged protests demanding immediate action. Police had registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and launched a manhunt for the accused.
Police Investigation
Senior police officers, including the Superintendent of Police (Rural), reached the encounter site to supervise the proceedings. A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain if the accused had any criminal background or links to other crimes.
The police have also detained two other suspects for questioning. They are being interrogated to determine their role in the murder and whether they were part of a larger conspiracy.
