Major Fire Erupts at Mira Road Godown, Damages Adjacent Residential Buildings
A significant and alarming fire broke out at a makeshift godown located in an open plot near the Pleasant Park area of Mira Road on Tuesday night, triggering widespread panic among residents in the immediate vicinity. The blaze, which erupted around 9 pm, quickly intensified due to the combustible materials stored within the warehouse.
Rapid Spread and Explosions Escalate the Crisis
The godown was constructed using temporary materials such as tin sheets and bamboo, and it reportedly contained large quantities of plastic and cloth materials. These highly flammable contents acted as fuel, causing the fire to spread with alarming speed and ferocity. As the flames grew, they reached nearby residential buildings, impacting several balconies and creating a fearful situation for local inhabitants.
During the chaotic incident, multiple gas cylinders exploded within the godown, further escalating the blaze and causing additional damage to vehicles parked in the surrounding area. The explosions added to the intensity of the fire, making containment efforts more challenging for emergency responders.
Fire Brigade Response and Damage Assessment
Fire brigade teams from the municipal corporation rushed to the scene immediately upon receiving alerts and launched extensive operations to control the raging fire. Due to the extreme intensity of the flames, multiple water tankers and specialized firefighting equipment were deployed to combat the blaze effectively.
While no casualties have been reported from the incident, officials estimate that significant financial losses have been incurred, particularly by residents of the adjacent buildings who suffered property damage. Sandeep Rane from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) raised serious concerns about safety regulations in the area. He alleged that numerous commercial establishments operate without proper official permissions and fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs), contributing to such hazardous situations.
Rane confirmed that the MNS will be conducting an agitation on Wednesday to protest against these regulatory lapses and demand stricter enforcement of safety norms. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities, who are working to determine what sparked the initial blaze.
