A 35-year-old man was arrested on Friday for abetment to suicide after his wife allegedly died by suicide in Greater Noida. Subhash Sharma, a farmer and resident of Kasna, was taken into custody after Sonika consumed a poisonous substance on Thursday evening. An FIR was registered against four individuals, including the main accused.
Complaint Details
Sonika's father, Rakesh Singh, stated in his complaint that his daughter had a love marriage with Subhash on August 14, 2015, a resident of Chirsi village under Kasna police station. After a few days, family disputes and quarrels began between the couple.
Rakesh Singh said, "My daughter repeatedly informed me that Subhash, his brother Prempal, his nephew Rinku, and one Satish (the elder son of a relative) harassed and tormented her daily and abused her. She was distressed."
Harassment Allegations
On Wednesday morning, Sonika called her father and told him that her husband and in-laws were harassing her. Then on Thursday around 3 pm, Subhash called Rakesh saying that something had happened to his daughter and she was admitted to the ICU at a hospital. Due to the harassment by Subhash and his family members, Sonika consumed something poisonous. Rakesh mentioned that he provided financial assistance to her from time to time and a year ago purchased a scooter for her, yet the harassment continued.
Legal Action
A senior police officer confirmed that based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Subhash, Prempal, Rinku, and Satish under Sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting a woman to cruelty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kasna police station.
The investigation is ongoing, and the accused are in custody. Authorities are examining evidence to ensure justice for the victim.
