Man arrested for assault, theft from friends in Thiruvananthapuram

Police in Thiruvananthapuram have made a significant arrest in a case involving violence and theft among acquaintances. The Venjaramoodu police station apprehended a 30-year-old man on Wednesday in connection with an incident where he allegedly attacked his own friends and stole money from them.

Details of the Assault and Theft Incident

The accused has been identified as Mohammed Altaf, a resident of Kuttara Puthal Vila house in Vamanapuram village. According to the police complaint, the troubling episode occurred last week. The situation originated when Altaf borrowed money from several of his friends, who are also from the Kuttara area in Vamanapuram.

After failing to return the borrowed amount on the promised date, his friends approached him to question the delay. This confrontation allegedly took a violent turn. Instead of repaying the debt, Altaf is accused of assaulting the individuals who had lent him money. He then reportedly stole additional cash from them before fleeing the scene.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the assault, the victims filed a formal complaint with the Venjaramoodu police. Altaf had gone into hiding after the incident, prompting a search operation by the police team. Their efforts culminated in his arrest this Wednesday.

The case has been registered under multiple sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The specific sections invoked are 126(2), 309(6), 324(4), and 118(1). These sections cover serious offences including robbery, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.

Legal Proceedings and Further Probe

After his arrest, Mohammed Altaf was presented before a local court. The court has ordered him to be remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. This period will allow for further investigation while the accused remains in detention.

Police officials have indicated that the investigation is ongoing. A key focus is to determine if the accused has been involved in any other similar criminal activities in the area. The police are delving deeper into his possible connections to other unresolved cases of assault or theft.

This arrest highlights the prompt action taken by the Venjaramoodu police in responding to a serious complaint and bringing an alleged perpetrator to justice through a dedicated search operation.
