Man arrested for death threats to Sitamarhi MLA

Police in Muzaffarpur have made a swift arrest in a case involving serious threats against a sitting legislator. The accused, identified as Rahul Kumar, was taken into custody for allegedly making life-threatening calls to Amit Kumar, the MLA from Belsand in Sitamarhi district, who is also known as Ranu.

Timeline of the Threat and Complaint

The incident came to light when the legislator received two threatening phone calls on November 26. Alarmed by the serious nature of the calls, the MLA's personal secretary, Saurav Kumar, approached the authorities. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the Ahiyapur police station on November 27, detailing the use of abusive language and explicit death threats.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

Acting promptly on the complaint, the police launched a technical investigation to trace the origin of the threatening calls. Using the cellphone number from which the threats were made, officers were able to pinpoint the location of the suspect.

Town SDPO-II Vinita Sinha stated that the accused was identified through technical evidence. A raid was subsequently conducted in the Shramjivi Nagar area under the sadar subdivision, leading to Rahul Kumar's arrest.

Investigation and Judicial Process

During interrogation following his arrest, Rahul Kumar confessed to the crime, according to police officials. After completing all necessary legal formalities, he was remanded to judicial custody.

SHO of Ahiyapur police station, Rohan Kumar, confirmed that the case was registered based on the complaint filed by the MLA's secretary. While the arrest has been made, the police are still investigating the precise motive behind Rahul Kumar's actions. The case was filed at Ahiyapur police station because the targeted MLA, Amit Kumar, resides in the Baikunthpuri locality which falls under its jurisdiction.
