Man Arrested for Derogatory Post Against Priyank Kharge

Udupi: The Karkala Town police have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly posting a derogatory comment against Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Facebook. The accused, identified as Sudheer Bangera, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a local resident, Suresh.

Complaint Details

According to the complaint, while browsing Facebook on Sunday, the complainant came across a post on a Facebook account named 'Namma Karla' featuring a photograph of Priyank Kharge and carrying a statement attributed to him. The post, allegedly made by Sudheer Bangera on Saturday, contained derogatory, caste-based, and threatening remarks targeting the minister.

Nature of the Comments

The complaint alleged that the comment was intended to create hostility, hatred, and enmity among different groups. It further stated that despite knowing that the minister belongs to a scheduled caste community, the accused made caste-based remarks and issued threats, thereby disturbing social harmony and communal peace.

Legal Action

Based on the complaint, the Karkala Town police registered a case under Sections 351(3), 196, and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(u) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Police have arrested Sudheer Bangera, and he will be produced before a court.
