Blockade by NLFT and ATTF Disrupts Tripura
The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have initiated a 72-hour road and rail blockade in Tripura, demanding the implementation of a Rs 250 crore rehabilitation package for their returnees. The blockade, which began on June 12, 2026, has severely disrupted vehicular movement on national highways and halted train services, according to an official statement.
Demands for Pending Rehabilitation Benefits
The militant groups are pressing for the release of pending benefits under a rehabilitation scheme agreed upon with the state government. Returnees from these groups have been staging protests, claiming that the promised financial package has not been fully delivered. The blockade aims to draw attention to their grievances and force the government to act.
Impact on Daily Life
The blockade has caused significant inconvenience to commuters and transporters. National Highway 8, a key artery connecting Tripura with the rest of the country, has been blocked at multiple points. Train services on the Lumding-Agartala route have also been suspended. Authorities have deployed additional security forces to prevent any untoward incidents.
Government Response
The Tripura government has appealed to the groups to call off the blockade and assured them that their demands are being considered. Officials stated that a portion of the rehabilitation package has already been disbursed, and the remaining amount will be released soon. However, the groups have remained adamant, insisting on full implementation before ending the protest.
The blockade is expected to continue until June 14, 2026, unless a resolution is reached. The situation remains tense, with both sides holding firm on their positions.
