Man Arrested in Dumka for Alleged Dowry-Related Murder of Wife

In a tragic incident highlighting the persistent issue of dowry violence, a 32-year-old man was arrested and sent to jail on Thursday in Dumka, Jharkhand, for allegedly murdering his wife over dowry demands. The accused, identified as Sardar Marandi, was taken into custody a day after his wife, Namita (26), was found dead in their residence in Daldali village, located under the jurisdiction of the Shikaripara police station.

Father's FIR Leads to Arrest

The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by Namita's father, Basu Hembrom, a resident of Sainthia in West Bengal. Hembrom filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the local police, alleging that his daughter had endured continuous harassment over dowry since her marriage to Marandi in 2023. The couple, who have a one-and-a-half-year-old son, had been living in Daldali village.

According to the FIR, Hembrom received a phone call from Marandi informing him that Namita was unwell. Upon rushing to Daldali village, Hembrom discovered his daughter dead inside the house, with a deep mark on her neck, indicating possible foul play.
