In a significant crackdown on cyber fraud, the Delhi Police have apprehended a 35-year-old man from Ghaziabad for allegedly orchestrating a sophisticated fake airline job scam. The accused, identified as Rohit Mishra, is charged with cheating multiple individuals by promising non-existent employment opportunities with airlines.
The Modus Operandi of the Fraud
The case came to light after a woman, Ritu Singh, filed a formal complaint with the authorities. She detailed how she was approached by unknown persons who offered her a lucrative job with an airline. The fraudsters initiated contact via a professional-looking email, followed by persistent messages on messaging platforms.
Gradually, they built her confidence and then persuaded her to send money for various purported formalities. These included processing fees, uniform charges, and other administrative costs. Trusting the elaborate setup, the victim made multiple payments before realizing she had been conned.
Technical Trail Leads to Arrest
Upon receiving the complaint, a dedicated police team from the Shahdara district, under the supervision of DCP Shahdara Prashant Gautam, launched a detailed investigation. Officers meticulously analysed technical data, including call detail records and digital footprints left by the scammer.
This digital trail led them to Ghaziabad in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Conducting a raid, the police team successfully arrested Rohit Mishra. During the arrest, law enforcement officials seized crucial evidence that laid bare his operation.
Evidence Recovered and Criminal History
The recovered items paint a picture of a well-planned fraud. Police confiscated a mobile phone containing a WhatsApp profile impersonating an airline. They also found multiple QR codes used for receiving payments, a fabricated Letter of Intent, and several other forged documents that were used to lend credibility to the job offers.
Further investigation revealed that Mishra was previously involved in a similar cheating case, indicating a pattern of criminal activity. His arrest has potentially prevented further financial losses for other unsuspecting job seekers.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for individuals searching for employment online, especially in coveted sectors like aviation. Cybercriminals often exploit the high demand for such jobs by creating elaborate hoaxes.
Experts advise candidates to always verify job offers directly through the official websites of companies, be wary of requests for upfront payments for "processing" or "training," and never share sensitive personal or financial information based on unsolicited emails or messages. The Delhi Police continue to investigate the full scope of this scam to identify other possible victims.
