Man Arrested for Illegal Clinic in Amritsar

Joint Raid Leads to Arrest of Unqualified Practitioner

A joint team comprising officials from the Drug Control wing, the Health Department, and the Amritsar police arrested a man for allegedly operating an unauthorised allopathic clinic in the Verka area. The accused, Kirpal Singh, a resident of Baba Buddha Singh Avenue near Maan Clinic, Verka, lacked the required medical qualifications to practise modern medicine.

The action was taken on July 9 during a coordinated inspection led by Drug Control Officer Sukhdeep Singh, along with officials from the Verka police station. The team raided Bhullar Clinic located at Patti Bhara Chakki Anokh Singh, Verka, where Kirpal Singh was allegedly found examining a patient identified as Shiva.

Seizure of Equipment and Medicines

During the inspection, the accused reportedly failed to produce any valid qualification or registration documents authorising him to practise allopathic medicine. Officials stated this constituted unauthorised medical practice in violation of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. The inspection team seized 14 types of clinical equipment along with a stock of allopathic medicines from the premises. Among the seized items were 370 capsules of Prega-G-300 and other medicines.

The equipment and medicines were inventoried, sealed, and taken into possession in the presence of the inspection team and the patient. The clinic was immediately sealed following the inspection. The police arrested the accused on the spot, and the entire raid was videographed as part of the investigation.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

An FIR has been registered at the Verka police station under Section 15(2)(B) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged illegal medical practice and whether more patients had been treated at the clinic. Authorities are also probing the source of the seized medicines and equipment.

According to Drug Control Officer Sukhdeep Singh, such operations are part of a continued effort to curb unqualified medical practitioners who pose a serious risk to public health. The patient, Shiva, was also questioned as part of the investigation.
