Police Crack Blind Murder Case in Manglaur, Arrest Accused
In a swift investigation, police in Manglaur have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly killing a farmer within just three hours of meeting him and robbing him of cash. Officers described this as a 'blind murder case,' solved through systematic police work and crucial CCTV evidence.
Body Found in Orchard Near Gangnahar Canal
Police discovered the body of the victim on February 17 from an orchard located near the Gangnahar canal in Manglaur. The deceased was identified as Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary, a 43-year-old farmer from Ghosipura village near Manglaur.
Details of the Alleged Crime
According to police reports, Pradeep was returning home from Roorkee on his motorcycle when he stopped near the Roorkee Roadways bus stand to purchase liquor. The country-made liquor shop at that location was closed, and he encountered Vinayak Tyagi, 26, who was also seeking to buy alcohol. The two then proceeded to another liquor shop in Roorkee.
Investigators stated that Vinayak noticed Pradeep was carrying a substantial amount of cash when he paid for the liquor. Outside the shop, Vinayak allegedly ensured that Pradeep consumed more alcohol while he himself drank less. Under the pretext of arranging more liquor, Vinayak offered to ride Pradeep's motorcycle and drove towards Manglaur along the Gangnahar road.
He stopped at an orchard near the canal, where they continued drinking. When Pradeep became heavily intoxicated, Vinayak allegedly picked up a stone and struck him repeatedly on the head, killing him on the spot. He then fled with the cash, leaving the motorcycle behind.
Arrest and Evidence Seized
Police arrested Vinayak Tyagi and seized Rs 20,000 in cash and blood-stained clothes from his possession. Vinayak, a native of Barla in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, was living in rented accommodation in Jwalapur, Haridwar. He previously worked as a gym trainer but had fallen into substance abuse and was recently employed as a taxi driver.
Police Statement on the Investigation
SSP Navneet Singh commented on the case, stating, "This was a blind murder case with no prior connection between the accused and the victim. CCTV footage from multiple locations provided crucial leads and showed them travelling together on a motorcycle. Manglaur police worked systematically to crack the case."
The investigation highlights the challenges of solving crimes without obvious motives or relationships, relying on technological aids like CCTV to piece together events and bring perpetrators to justice.
