Man Arrested for Raping Delhi Woman on False Marriage Promise

Colva: Colva police have registered a rape case against Ramesh Chanasappa Hadpad, a Karnataka native residing in Ponda, for allegedly sexually exploiting a 28-year-old woman from Delhi on the false promise of marriage.

Details of the Incident

Police said the two worked at the same hotel, where Hadpad befriended the woman in 2024. He allegedly claimed to be unmarried and expressed a desire to start a family, despite being married. Based on this assurance, he convinced her to engage in a physical relationship, leading to pregnancy.

Financial Exploitation

The woman also alleged that Hadpad took Rs 1.5 lakh from her, claiming it was for marriage arrangements. She stated that she faced physical and mental harassment, as well as obscene abuse during her pregnancy. After the child's birth, he assaulted her, neglected both mother and infant, and later abandoned them.

Police Action

Police confirmed that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend Hadpad. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
