Chennai: A 39-year-old man, Prithviraj of Saligramam, was arrested for sexually harassing a 24-year-old woman from Nagaland on 100-Feet Road in Vadapalani during the early hours of Monday. The culprit followed the woman, falsely accused her of taking his mobile phone and sexually assaulted her when she was on her way home from a church.

The survivor, a native of Nagaland, was staying with a friend in Vadapalani and was employed at an ice cream shop in Thiruvananthapuram. Police said she visited a church near a private hospital on 100-Feet Road at around 4.30am and prayed for the recovery of her father, who was unwell.

After she left the church, a man riding a motorcycle approached her and asked why she was crying. He attempted to console her and offered her his mobile phone. The woman declined and walked away from the place. Police said the man followed her and created a nuisance by accusing her of taking his mobile phone. During the confrontation, he sexually assaulted her under the pretext of searching for the device.
