Man arrested for trying to kill wife, daughter in Mumbai

The Dahisar police in Mumbai have taken a 36-year-old man into custody for a horrific alleged attempt on the lives of his wife and their 14-year-old daughter. The chilling incident unfolded at their family home late on Sunday night, sending shockwaves through the locality.

Midnight Horror in Dahisar Home

The accused, identified as Hanumant Sonwal, was arrested after his teenage daughter provided a crucial statement to the authorities. The minor girl suffered a deep cut on her neck, requiring immediate medical attention. She received five stitches at a local hospital following the traumatic event.

According to the police report, the victim, Priyanshi, lives with her parents in Dahisar. Her mother, Rajshri, is employed with a diamond company, while Sonwal works for a pest control firm. The family had been under severe strain, with Rajshri having previously filed for divorce in the Bandra court. She cited repeated domestic abuse and harassment as the primary reasons for seeking legal separation.

A History of Conflict Culminates in Violence

The events leading to the attack were precipitated by escalating tensions. On Saturday, Rajshri and her daughter went out for a birthday dinner, leaving Sonwal at home. Upon their return, the situation deteriorated. Sonwal allegedly called relatives and levelled accusations of infidelity against his wife, threatening her.

The conflict reached a boiling point on Sunday. After Rajshri visited a lawyer in Nalasopara for divorce consultation, another heated argument erupted at home. She reportedly informed Sonwal of her plans to sell their house and relocate to Pune with their daughter. Following this confrontation, Sonwal left the house around 10 pm, and the mother-daughter duo retired for the night.

The Attack and Swift Police Action

The nightmare began around midnight when Priyanshi woke up in acute pain and discovered she was bleeding from an injury. In a state of shock, she saw her father standing near her mother, allegedly holding a blade. Her screams woke Rajshri and alerted neighbours, who rushed in and managed to restrain Sonwal.

Priyanshi was quickly taken to Shatabdi Hospital for treatment. The Dahisar police, after verifying her injuries and recording her detailed statement, registered an attempt-to-murder case and arrested Hanumant Sonwal. He was produced before a court on Monday and has been remanded to police custody until December 3.

Senior Inspector Serjerao Patil of Dahisar police station confirmed the legal actions. "The accused has been booked under sections related to attempt-to-murder and domestic violence. Further investigations are currently underway," he stated. The case highlights the grave dangers of domestic violence and the urgent need for intervention in abusive households.
