In a significant development, the Kurukshetra district police have apprehended a man accused of supplying narcotic substances that led to the tragic death of a youth from a drug overdose. The arrest highlights the ongoing battle against drug abuse in the region.
Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal Overdose
A team from the Ismailabad Police Station successfully arrested the accused, identified as Manpreet Singh, aged 27, who is a resident of Dera Ismailabad in Kurukshetra district. Following his arrest, Manpreet Singh was produced before the court, which subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victim, Lovepreet Singh, aged 26 and a resident of Madadoo village in Kurukshetra district, succumbed to an overdose of chitta, a synthetic form of heroin. Lovepreet, who worked as a daily wager, injected the substance into his body, leading to his untimely demise.
According to police reports, the incident came to light when Lovepreet's uncle, Jasmer Singh, also a daily wage labourer from Madadoo village, submitted a formal statement to the authorities on January 24, 2026. Jasmer Singh recounted that on January 23, Manpreet Singh had called Lovepreet to meet him. In response to the call, Lovepreet accompanied Manpreet to an undisclosed location.
Later that evening, Jasmer Singh received distressing news about Lovepreet's deteriorating health. Upon reaching Ismailabad, he found Lovepreet in an intoxicated state at a local doctor's clinic. Due to the youth's critical condition, the doctor immediately referred him to the LNJP District Civil Hospital in Kurukshetra. Tragically, upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared Lovepreet Singh brought dead.
Police Investigation and Action
Based on Jasmer Singh's statement, the Kurukshetra police promptly registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the matter. On January 25, 2026, acting on the directives of Kurukshetra SP Nitish Aggarwal, a police team led by ASI Sujsabir Singh, with assistance from Pradeep Kumar, arrested Manpreet Singh. He is accused of supplying the narcotic substance that resulted in Lovepreet's death.
Police officials have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working diligently to trace the source of the narcotic substance and to determine if additional individuals are involved in this case. This proactive approach aims to curb the spread of such dangerous drugs in the community.
A Disturbing Pattern in Kurukshetra
This incident marks the second case of a death due to drug overdose in Kurukshetra district within a span of two months. Earlier, on December 14, 2025, a similar tragedy occurred when Harsh, a resident of Kangwal village in Ambala district, died from a drug overdose at Ismailabad hospital. In that case as well, the police arrested the drug supplier, underscoring a recurring issue in the area.
The repeated occurrences highlight the urgent need for enhanced vigilance and stricter enforcement against drug trafficking in Kurukshetra. Local authorities are under pressure to implement more effective measures to prevent such fatalities and protect vulnerable youth from the clutches of addiction.
