A shocking case of attempted murder has emerged from Dindigul district, where a young man allegedly tried to kill a teenage girl after his marriage proposal was turned down. The incident, which highlights the dangers of one-sided obsession, has left the local community in Chennamanayakkanpatti reeling.
Details of the Attack and Victim's Ordeal
The accused has been identified as Arun Pandi, a 25-year-old resident of Veeli Naicken Patti near Batlagundu. He reportedly harbored feelings for the 17-year-old victim, who had discontinued her studies after completing Class 10. According to police, his family had earlier sent a marriage proposal, which was rejected by the girl's family.
The situation turned violent on November 16. Police stated that Arun confronted the girl when she was alone at her house in Chennamanayakkanpatti. Following an argument, he allegedly strangled her using a dupatta. The attack was so severe that the victim lost consciousness during the assault.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The seriously injured girl was rushed to the Theni Government Hospital for urgent medical care. She was later discharged and is now reported to be in stable condition. A critical challenge in the initial investigation was that the victim could not immediately identify her attacker due to the traumatic nature of the assault.
Based on a formal complaint filed by the girl's family on December 15, the Batlagundu police swung into action. They have registered a case under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- Section 109 (Attempt to Murder)
- Section 329(4) (Criminal Trespass)
However, the accused, Arun Pandi, has absconded and is currently evading arrest.
