Property Dispute Leads to Horrific Family Massacre in Bahraich Village

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 40-year-old man allegedly axed four of his family members to death and critically injured his elder brother following a long-standing property dispute. The gruesome attack occurred in the early hours of Monday at Basantpur Rudal village in Bahraich district.

Details of the Brutal Attack

According to police officials and preliminary investigations, the accused, identified as Nirankar Verma, launched a violent assault that lasted for nearly 30 minutes. The attack began when Verma allegedly struck his 60-year-old father, Badlu Ram, during a heated argument over the division of ancestral property.

When other family members attempted to intervene and stop the violence, the situation escalated dramatically. Verma reportedly turned his weapon on his 56-year-old mother Sanju Devi, his 42-year-old sister Parvati, and his 80-year-old grandmother Sheetla Devi, killing all three in quick succession.

Brother's Attempt to Stop the Violence

Hearing the commotion and screams, the elder brother, Gurudev Verma, rushed to the scene in an attempt to stop the assault. Tragically, he too became a victim of the attack and sustained critical injuries. He is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment at the district hospital, where his condition remains serious.

Ten-Year-Old Boy Witnesses Entire Incident

The most chilling aspect of this tragedy involves a young eyewitness. Gurudev's 10-year-old son reportedly witnessed the entire horrific incident while hiding in fear. The child, who has been identified as the sole eyewitness to the multiple murders, stayed concealed after seeing his uncle carry out the brutal attack with an axe.

Police have taken the traumatized boy into protective custody and are carefully recording his statement. Child psychologists and trauma counselors have been brought in to help the young witness cope with the psychological impact of what he witnessed.

Aftermath and Attempted Suicide

After committing the murders, the accused allegedly attempted to take his own life by repeatedly hitting his head with a brick. He collapsed due to excessive bleeding before villagers reached the house and discovered the horrifying scene of bodies lying on the floor and beds.

Upon being alerted, police rushed to the spot and took the critically injured accused into custody. Due to his grave condition, he was initially shifted to a local hospital before being referred to a specialized trauma centre in Lucknow for advanced medical care.

Root Cause: Long-Standing Property Dispute

The initial police investigation has revealed that the two brothers had been locked in a bitter dispute over 18 bighas of agricultural land for several years. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a piece of land that had been sold by their father approximately 15 years ago.

The money from that sale was used to purchase another plot of land, but the accused allegedly never received his share of the property or proceeds, leading to ongoing tension and resentment that ultimately erupted in violence.

Police Response and Investigation

An FIR has been registered based on the complaint filed by the injured brother, Gurudev Verma. Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari confirmed that the case appears to be directly linked to the property dispute that had been simmering for years.

"Forensic teams are currently on the spot conducting a thorough examination," stated ASP Tiwari. "The weapon used in the attack has been recovered, and all bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. We have deployed adequate police force in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and order."

The police investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the complete sequence of events and gather all relevant evidence. The case has highlighted the tragic consequences that can result when family disputes over property turn violent, serving as a grim reminder of the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.
