Illegal Urea Repackaging Case in Dakshina Kannada
In a significant crackdown on fertilizer fraud, authorities in Dakshina Kannada's Bantwal have booked a man for illegally repackaging agricultural-grade urea. The operation was uncovered after a tip-off, leading to a raid on a godown where the illegal activity was taking place.
Details of the Seizure
During the raid, officials found that an estimated 632 bags of urea had been repackaged. The accused was reportedly removing the original packaging and replacing it with counterfeit labels to sell the fertilizer at higher prices or to divert it for industrial use, which is illegal.
Legal Action Taken
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act and the Fertilizer Control Order. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the urea and the network involved in the scam.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of fertilizer black marketing and adulteration in the region. Farmers are advised to purchase fertilizers only from authorized dealers to avoid being cheated.
