Bokaro: A dramatic scene unfolded in Motileda village under Giridih on Monday when a youth climbed a nearly 100-metre-high mobile tower, demanding marriage with a girl who filed a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and sexual exploitation case against him.
The accused, identified as Sanjay Rajak, remained atop the tower for more than 12 hours despite repeated police appeals. Authorities, including Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jeetwahan Oraon and local police teams, continued rescue efforts as large crowds gathered at the spot. This is the second such incident in the past three days in Giridih.
According to police sources, the girl had lodged a complaint under POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code alleging sexual exploitation by Rajak. In response, the youth climbed the tower and refused to come down unless the girl agreed to marry him. Police negotiators tried to persuade him, but he remained adamant.
The incident drew a large number of onlookers, causing traffic disruption in the area. Fire brigade and ambulance services were also pressed into service. As of late Monday night, Rajak was still atop the tower, and efforts to bring him down safely were ongoing. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
This incident follows a similar case in Giridih three days earlier, where a man climbed a tower for a similar demand. Authorities are concerned about the trend and are considering stricter measures to prevent such acts.
