A 22-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly opened fire in the air and attempted to flee when confronted by a head constable in east Delhi's Trilokpuri area, police said on Tuesday.
Incident Details
The incident took place around 2:25am on April 20 near a community building in Block-25 of Trilokpuri. Head Constable Vikrant, who was passing through the area in his private vehicle, spotted a suspicious man carrying a firearm and stopped him for questioning.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Rajeev Kumar said, "When challenged, the accused allegedly fired a round in the air and attempted to escape on a scooty. The constable chased and overpowered him single-handedly."
Recovery and Accused
Police recovered an illegal country-made pistol, three live cartridges, and a used cartridge from his possession, along with the scooty. The accused was identified as Asif (22), a resident of Trilokpuri, who has previous criminal cases against him.
A case has been registered at Kalyanpuri police station under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
