According to police statements released on Wednesday, the sessions judge court in Jowai, presided over by NA Khan, convicted Stam Surong for the heinous crime of uxoricide—the killing of one's wife. The case traces its origins to a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Barwill Singh Sari at the Ummulong Beat House. The FIR detailed that on the morning of September 8, 2006, around 5 am, Stam Surong, a resident of Mukhla Nongrim village, doused his wife, Before Sari, with kerosene oil and set her ablaze inside their home.
In her final moments, the victim managed to recount the horrifying details of the attack to her family members before succumbing to her injuries. This testimony played a crucial role in the investigation and subsequent trial.

The case was officially registered as Jowai P.S. Case No. 104(9)06 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to murder. Sub-Inspector A. Rymbai led the investigation, meticulously gathering evidence and filing a charge sheet that paved the way for the trial.
