A 27-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death with an axe during a wedding ceremony in Jharkhand's Gumla district following an altercation, police said on Friday. The accused was arrested on the same day.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in Lotwa village under Palkot police station limits on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The deceased, identified as Durga Oraon, was a resident of Ambatoli, a neighbouring village, and had attended the wedding.
Police stated that an altercation broke out involving the accused, Ganga Oraon, and some other persons. When Durga intervened to pacify the situation, the accused allegedly became enraged, attacked him with an axe, and locked him inside a bathroom.
Medical Response and Death
On Thursday morning, Durga was taken to Community Health Centre (CHC) Palkot and later referred to Sadar Hospital. From there, he was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the institute.
Arrest and Confession
“We arrested the accused, who confessed to his involvement in the crime and was forwarded to jail on Friday,” said Tarun Kumar, officer in-charge of Palkot police station.
