Man held for girlfriend's rape, death in Mahabubnagar

In a shocking incident from Telangana, a young woman lost her life after allegedly being raped by her boyfriend. The Mahabubnagar police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the crime that occurred on Wednesday night and led to the death of his 22-year-old girlfriend.

Chilling Details of the Night

The tragic sequence of events unfolded at the Rythu Vedika (farmers' platform) in a village within the Mahabubnagar district. According to the police, the accused called his girlfriend to meet him at the location on the night of Wednesday. It was inside the washroom of the Rythu Vedika that he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The assault had severe physical consequences. The young woman, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, fell unconscious and began bleeding. Panicked, the accused then dialed one of her relatives, asking them to come to the spot immediately.

A Desperate Rush for Help

Once the relative arrived, they moved the unconscious victim to a nearby Anganwadi centre. Soon, more of the woman's family members reached the location. Recognizing the gravity of her condition, they took her to a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP).

The RMP, upon examination, immediately advised them to shift her to a hospital, as her condition was critical. By this time, she was bleeding profusely. Despite frantic efforts to get her to a medical facility, the ambulance staff declared her dead on the way.

The following day, on Thursday, the victim's heartbroken father filed a formal police complaint against the young man, holding him directly responsible for his daughter's death.

Police Investigation and Clarifications

Mahabubnagar Superintendent of Police D. Janaki provided details of the case. The police were quick to address the context of the night, as gram panchayat election results were being declared at a polling booth near the Rythu Vedika, accompanied by celebrations.

The police clarified unequivocally that the criminal offence had no connection whatsoever to the election proceedings or the celebrations. "The accused has no political background, and the offence has no link with the celebrations organised by the winning candidate at the polling station," the police stated.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rape and murder. Given the victim's community, the police have also invoked the stringent SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused was arrested on Saturday.

In adherence to Supreme Court directives concerning sexual assault cases, the identity of the victim has been protected to safeguard her family's privacy and dignity.
