ERODE: The Gobichettipalayam all women police have arrested a 50-year-old man on charges of raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Mani, a resident of Kolappalur in Gobichettipalayam, was taken into custody based on a complaint filed by a social worker from the district child protection office in Erode.
Details of the Incident
According to the complaint, Mani, who worked at a two-wheeler workshop, sexually assaulted the Class X girl when she visited her grandmother's house. He threatened to kill her father if she disclosed the incident to her parents. In April, the girl fell ill, and doctors at a hospital in Gobichettipalayam examined her, revealing that she was eight months pregnant.
Medical and Legal Proceedings
On April 26, the minor was admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai. Hospital authorities informed the Child Welfare Committee, and social worker Devaki met the girl on May 7 to inquire about the incident. Following the inquiry, the social worker filed a police complaint. The arrested man has been remanded in judicial custody.
