Delhi Police Apprehends Serial Bike Thief Posing as Customer

In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly stealing high-end motorcycles by exploiting the test drive process at showrooms. The accused, identified as Punit Satija, a resident of Rewari in Haryana, was taken into custody following an intensive investigation into a recent theft incident.

Modus Operandi Unveiled

According to police officials, Satija would visit motorcycle showrooms across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), posing as a genuine prospective buyer. He would request a test drive of expensive models and then flee with the vehicles, never returning to the dealership. This cunning scheme allowed him to target multiple showrooms without raising immediate suspicion.

Case Registration and Arrest Details

The case came to light on March 19, 2026, when an employee from a Royal Enfield showroom filed a formal complaint. The employee reported that a customer had taken a bike for a test drive and disappeared. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini), Shashank Jaiswal, stated that based on this complaint, a dedicated probe was launched.

Through meticulous tracking, the police traced Satija to the Bhalaswa dairy area in Delhi. He was apprehended on March 21, 2026, and was found in possession of a stolen motorcycle at the time of his arrest. During subsequent interrogation, Satija confessed to his crimes, revealing the extent of his operations.

Recovery of Stolen Property

Acting on the information provided by Satija, the police successfully recovered six stolen high-end motorcycles. These vehicles were linked to various theft cases across Delhi and its neighboring regions. The recovery has provided crucial evidence and helped resolve multiple pending investigations.

Impact and Ongoing Investigation

With Satija's arrest, authorities have reportedly worked out at least nine cases of motorcycle theft in the Delhi-NCR area. The police have emphasized that this arrest is a major step in curbing such organized theft activities. However, they have also noted that further investigation is still underway to uncover any potential accomplices or additional stolen property.

This incident highlights the vulnerabilities in the test drive procedures at vehicle showrooms and serves as a cautionary tale for dealerships to enhance their security measures. The Delhi Police have urged showroom owners to implement stricter verification processes for customers requesting test drives to prevent similar incidents in the future.
