A tragic incident unfolded at Barh railway station under the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a man who was hit by the incoming Patna–Howrah Vande Bharat Express. The semi-high-speed train struck the individual around 9 am, leading to fatal injuries.
Details of the Fatal Mishap
According to Danapur RPF Commandant Uday Singh Pawar, the victim reportedly went close to the edge of platform number 2 to spit after chewing tobacco. At that precise moment, the Vande Bharat train arrived at the station and collided with him. The impact caused the man to fall onto the platform, sustaining severe head injuries.
Bakhtiyarpur RPF Inspector Jawhar Lall confirmed that Barh RPF and GRP personnel immediately rushed to the scene. They transported the injured man to Barh Sadar Hospital for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The identity of the deceased remains unknown as of the filing of this report, with authorities unable to establish it at this time.
Investigation and Official Response
GRP officials at Barh have registered a case of unnatural death (UD) and have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sources indicate that the body was subsequently sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further evidence.
In light of this unfortunate event, railway authorities from the Danapur division and the RPF have issued a strong advisory to passengers. They are urging everyone to maintain a safe distance from the platform edge, particularly during the arrival and departure of semi-high-speed trains like the Vande Bharat Express. This precaution is emphasized to prevent similar accidents in the future and ensure passenger safety.
Broader Context and Safety Concerns
This incident highlights ongoing safety challenges at railway stations, especially with the introduction of faster trains such as the Vande Bharat Express. The Danapur division has been proactive in addressing these issues, but this tragedy underscores the need for continued vigilance and public awareness campaigns.
Railway officials are expected to review safety protocols and potentially enhance signage or barriers at platforms to mitigate risks. The community and regular commuters are advised to adhere strictly to safety guidelines to avoid such devastating outcomes.
